Motorpoint Arena Cardiff

We worked with an iconic Welsh venue to celebrate a landmark occasion through a media relations campaign.

Brief

When Motorpoint Arena Cardiff celebrated a key landmark in its history – 10 million customers passing through its doors – they turned to us to help promote the landmark to the media.

For 24 years, the arena has welcomed the most influential artists, comedians and sportspeople and given the people of Cardiff and beyond moments they’ll remember and cherish. With that focus in mind, we went about launching a media relations campaign across all media channels.

Action

To mark the 10 millionth customer occasion, we reached out to the arena’s fans and asked them to send their favourite photos from their time at the Arena. These were put on display at an event at the Senedd where there was also live music from Into the Ark, and speeches from key stakeholders including, the Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure, Ken Skates, Cardiff Central AM, Jenny Rathbone, and Live Nation COO for the UK and Ireland, Paul Latham.

We also worked with the broadcast media to secure interviews on ITV and BBC with a diverse range of performers including magician Dynamo on ITV Wales as well as comedian Peter Kay and darts legend Phil Taylor on BBC Radio Wales.

We combined this with a focus on the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters through organising school visits and a live interview with Jason Mohammed on BBC Radio Wales.

We also issued press releases to the media showcasing the economic and social importance of the venue.
